  • The Dental Implant Procedure Explained Step by Step

At Seaham Smiles, we believe that understanding the dental implant procedure can make your treatment journey more comfortable and reassuring. Led by Nigel Suggett – our principal dentist with an exceptional reputation in implant dentistry – we use advanced techniques and technology to ensure precision, safety, and long-term success.

When properly maintained, implants are the most reliable long-term solution for replacing missing teeth. They restore your ability to chew, improve your appearance, help keep nearby teeth stable, and enhance your overall quality of life.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Your journey begins with a free consultation at Seaham Smiles. Nigel will assess your oral health, discuss your goals, and determine whether dental implants are the right choice. This stage often includes a CBCT 3D scan (£120), which provides an accurate, detailed image of your jawbone for precise planning. You’ll also receive personalised oral hygiene instructions for dental implants to prepare your mouth for treatment.

Step 2: Treatment Planning

We use our CBCT scanner and advanced software to plan your implant placement in detail. Every implant is positioned with accuracy to ensure the safest outcome. Nigel uses Dentsply-Sirona implants – one of the most respected systems in the world – backed by extensive research and proven longevity.

Step 3: Implant Placement

On the day of your procedure, a titanium implant post is placed into your jawbone to act as the root of your new tooth. Local anaesthetic is used, and most patients are surprised by how comfortable the process is.

Step 4: Healing and Osseointegration

Over the next few months, your bone naturally fuses with the implant, a process known as osseointegration. This creates a stable foundation for your new crown or bridge. During this stage, maintaining excellent gum care and following your oral hygiene instructions for dental implants is crucial to avoid complications.

Step 5: Abutment Placement

Once healing is complete, a small connector called an abutment is attached to the implant. This is what will hold your new tooth securely in place.

Step 6: Restoration Fitting

Finally, a custom-made crown is fitted to your implant. Nigel’s attention to detail ensures that your restoration blends seamlessly with your other teeth, both in shape and colour, for a harmonious smile.

Implant Expertise at Seaham Smiles

Nigel’s passion for implant dentistry comes from two key areas:

  • Patient Experience: Spending time with patients, building trust, and seeing the positive difference implants make in their daily lives.
  • Art and Science Combined: From selecting the right materials to perfecting the fine details, Nigel ensures every implant complements the person and functions flawlessly.

With a success rate of 98% – above the 96% national average – Nigel will only recommend treatment if it’s the right choice for you and offers a good chance of long-term success.

Dental Implant Cost

At Seaham Smiles, implant placements start from £2,600.00, with a free initial consultation to discuss your options. The dental implant cost reflects the quality of materials, advanced technology, and the skill involved in each procedure. Investing in implants is not just about replacing teeth, it’s about restoring comfort, function, and peace of mind.

Caring for Your Implant
