This year marks a very special milestone for us at Seaham Smiles, our 15th birthday! Since opening our doors in 2010, we’ve been proud to care for the smiles of Seaham and beyond, helping thousands of patients feel confident about their oral health.

From our very first day, our mission has been simple: to provide the highest standard of dentistry in a warm, welcoming environment where every patient feels at ease. Whether it’s a routine check-up, advanced implant treatment, or a full smile makeover, we’ve always believed that dentistry should be about more than just teeth; it should be about people, relationships, and confidence.

“When I opened Seaham Smiles in 2010, my vision was simple: to create a warm, welcoming practice where every patient feels genuinely cared for. I wanted to build more than just a dental clinic, I wanted to build a place where trust, compassion, and clinical excellence go hand in hand. From day one, my goal has been to help our community smile with confidence, knowing they’re in safe, experienced hands.”

A Journey Rooted in Community

Seaham Smiles was founded by Dr. Nigel Suggett, who had a clear vision of creating a practice where patients could receive modern dentistry in a supportive, family-friendly setting. Since then, our practice has grown from strength to strength.

• In 2011, we completely refurbished both upstairs surgeries, transforming them into modern, fully equipped treatment rooms designed for comfort and efficiency.
• In 2012, we converted the downstairs office into a modern, fully equipped surgery. This not only expanded our treatment capacity but also allowed us to care for patients who were unable to access the upstairs surgeries.
• In 2020, we completed an extensive refurbishment that included a rear extension to create a spacious new waiting room, along with a fourth surgery fitted with the latest dental technology—including a CBCT scanner and an additional intraoral scanner.
• In January 2025, we added a fifth surgery, now home to our brilliant hygienists, and converted the loft into a new staff room and manager’s office. At this point, we’ve used every last nook of the building… short of putting a chair on the roof!
• Throughout the years, we’ve continued to expand our treatments, offering everything from dental implants and orthodontics to Invisalign and cosmetic dentistry.

“When I first opened Seaham Smiles, we started small—with just two surgeries, five dedicated staff members, and myself as the sole dentist. I’m proud to say that three of those original team members are still with us today. Over the years, our practice has grown significantly and now includes five surgeries, seven talented dentists, four skilled dental therapists, and a committed team of 19 nurses and administrative staff. This growth reflects our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care and meeting the evolving needs of our community.”

But while technology and treatments have evolved, one thing has never changed: our dedication to the people of Seaham. For over 65 years, dentistry has been provided from our site at 2 Maureen Terrace, and we’re honoured to carry on that tradition, keeping smiles healthy for generations.

Over the past 15 years, we’ve had the privilege of transforming smiles and changing lives. Whether it’s helping a nervous patient regain confidence, fitting life-changing All-on-4 implants, or giving someone their dream smile through Invisalign or cosmetic dentistry, the results go far beyond aesthetics; they touch people’s lives in meaningful ways.

We’re particularly proud of our prevention-first approach. With our skilled dental hygienists and experienced clinicians, we focus on educating patients, supporting healthy habits, and ensuring oral health is maintained for the long term.
